come to the channel islands we don't pay the road tax thing.

I was fed up with the UK set up ten years ago and it took me a further five to leave.

I worked for a government department and I can assure you there is no good news for the general public.

the government target the poor as they are easier to get money off and can't afford to contest anything that happens to them.

What started out as a 'Road Fund Licence' to pay for building and maintaining roads is now the 'Vehicle Excise Duty' of which some 15% goes towards the roads the rest goes into ---- goodness only knows what. Wars and Armaments are expensive so is recruiting 'Civil Servants' to keep the number of unemployed down. It is those people who think up things like how to increase stealth taxes. Then there's Council Tax.
Work it out if you are paid enough money to pay 40% Income Tax where does a £100 raise go? £40 in Income Tax, £10 in National Insurance (Ho, Ho, Ho), Fuel Tax - and this is paid by public transport too, 17.5% VAT and so on and so on.
The Government doesn't leave you much for yourself do they?

Councils don't make a penny out of parking permits - the admin cost eats up the £60 you pay.

The alternative would be no residents' parking in your area - and an almost certain guarantee that you would NEVER find a parking space, and you'd have to walk home with your shopping from 3 streets away. You'd be moaning then too!

yes it's a rip off, yet again the motorist being the easy target. The fee is supposed to go to paying for the enforcement of no parking without a permit thereby trying to ensure that you can at least park down your street, instead of it being clogged up with shoppers etc

The £60 a year you pay for parking is used to pay traffic wardens to prevent unauthorised cars (i.e. those that haven't paid the £60) from parking there.

Your £175 in road tax goes straight into the central government coffers. It partly pays for roads etc., but also for the NHS, Police, Defence, etc.

Of course it's a big rip-off! I am really angry about it and I'm not even a car owner. I did a lot of swearing I can tell you when I first read about it earlier. What will they think of next I wonder? A charge every time we go through our front doors to go out - based on estimated air intake? I just cannot believe it, I really can't. Communism here we come.

You appear to have answered your own question. The Parking fee is a money making scam by the local Council.

We gotta keep Tony and Gordon, as well as that prat Prescott in clover, while the rest of the country goes to the dogs. They don't spend the money raised to upkeep the road etc, only to add more speed cameras to get even more of your hard earned cash.

yes thats just another way for the council to fill thier Already over bulging wallets. but I think the Best One Is COUNCIL TAX. It pays toward BIN MEN. etc. so why do we have to do our own rubbish sort out. to recycle. n if we put the wrong thing in the wrong bin we will and can pay a fine. Why don't the government just tell us all to bend over and touch our toes while they F*** us all from behind. coz thats the way i see it
