It finally seems that after years of dominance, the Colorado Avalanche are in trouble -- do they make the playoffs this year or not? Do you think they've made bad trades (Tanguay for Leopold, Drury for magic beans, etc.) or that they're a victim of the "new NHL?"

Actually, I don't think so.

I think that they have a great team this year, and that they'll make the playoffs.

Their weakness is Jose Theodore. He's just too inconsistent. It's too bad really, the way he was taunted in Montreal the other night...

They are really not old as someone mentioned. They have a really young team this year.

Arnason, Wolski, Statsny, are great. They can score, and they are just gaining confidence.

John-Michael Liles moves the puck well and is a good point man. Sakic can still score.

The Avs are going to do okay this year. They could make the playoffs even. It's going to be though, but we'll see.

Colorado is having trouble with its goaltending. That's it. They're scoring lots and their younger talent is getting ample playing time. (Old? Their second line is made up of Arnason, Svatos, and Wolski).
Anyway, once the whole Budaj vs. Theodore works out (give me Budaj, Theodore is too inconsistant). You just have to wait for the standard bout of confidence to work into their game. This followed by a dominant whooping of a shooting team (Edmonton, anyone?), and you'll see them hit a high note.
Now are they stupid? Of course, they're still paying Rob Blake, and he doesn't even play for them anymore.
Are they in trouble? Hell no.
Bad trades? Nope, Leopold is solid and Svatos needed more powerplay time. Drury? Well ya, no way to argue that one...

they have gotten too old to keep up with the younger teams like anaheim, calgary, edmonton and san jose. the bad trades and the new nhl rules have contributed to their downfall. the good news with this team is that they are not the only former top team to be struggling with the new nhl rules. detroit is having similar problems too. i am not a avalanche fan but they were a good team for a long time. i would not be surprised if the avs, the stars and detroit struggle to make the playoffs.

They've got a goalie that gets paid twice what he deserves, and they are now stuck with that Leopold retard, I feel sorry for Joe Sakic, he's always been one of my favourite players, and you know he'll never leave the organization. Maybe they can turn it around next year.

With Theodore in nets this team has no chance. Joe Sakic is there only star and he can't do it by himself. They made a few bad trades and it's costing them.

Too early to tell. It's only the first month of the season. I believe they'll turn around and make it to the playoffs. Gotta believe.
