Think of the area of a square. or A x B = Area of a square.. Since it is a Square and not a rectangle then A squared or B squared equals it area.
Now a cube. The area of a cube is A x B x C = Area of a cube. Since a cube is also the same size on all sides and A, B, and C are the same value you can take any side to the power of 3 or "Cubed" and come up with the area of a cube.

Power of 3 relates to a cube because the cube is made in 3d. The difference between a cube and a square is that a square is in 2d (2 dimension). A cube is in 3d (3 dimension).

because in a cube, you multiply any side to itself 3 times (like 3*3*3) which is 3^3, to find the volume.
So, anything to the power of 3 is refered to as Cubed

Think about it... something to the power of 2 is refered to as a "square", because a square is 2 dimensional. Now apply that to cube.

A cube whose side measures any number will have a volume of that number, cubed. That's because the volume of any three-dimensional box is length times width times height. If the dimensions are all the same, that volume will be length times length times length, or length^3.
