I'm not going to dump on Circus Circus because you probably would have a good time there...Little kids like the circus acts(every 45min 11am - midnight), and the Carnival midway(200 games). Older kids/adults are going to have a good time in the adventuredome(21 rides). But for the money and for the whole family I think you can do so much better..
The rooms at the Orleans are much larger and considerable nicer...There is no comparison in casinos/hotel, the Orleans is wide open, not crowded like Circus Circus. Then again some people enjoy the NY City subway at rush hour.. Orleans has a nice pool, an 18 screen theater, 70 lane bowling alley, Kids Tyme(ages 3-9), an arcade for the teenagers...The buffet is one of the very best in LV, along with a very wide variety of restaurants, the graveyard specials(M-6am) at the Courtyard cafe are among the best meal deals in Las Vegas..Check it out, see what you think http://www.orleanscasino.com you can also check out reviews of both hotels at this site http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com under "VEGAS INFO" click on "casino" click on any hotel/casino you want to read reviews/info on.,
Orleans will also price match the best room rate you can find online...both "http://www.travelworm.com and http://www.i4vegas.com are good places to check for rates.
The least expensive time to go to LV is after the National Finals Rodeo which ends the 9th of December up until the weekend before Christmas(December 10th-22nd) ...

Circus Circus is not a nice hotel at all. It's old, and it shows. The only reason to stay there would be if you need a place with a good family atmosphere. The place is basically geared to families-parents have a place to park the kids for a few hours while they gamble or enjoy some peace and quiet, poolside (They have three pools, very basic, no spectacular, lush landscaping, mostly concrete and palms). The hotel does have an RV park, so that's another reason somebody might choose Circus Circus. Other than that it's a "just need a place to crash" sort of hotel. If you're looking for a great pool, and a nice place to stay- Mandalay Bay created it's own beach, with a wave pool, and a river. Tropicana has long been famous for it's pools. The hotel is showing it's age a little, but still a good value. The Flamingo also has a legendary pool area and many people stay here, just for the pool area, lots of waterfalls and super-lush landscaping. The hotel is old, but very well kept up.

Circus Circus is fun for kids but that's all you can say about it. The place is crowded and filthy plus the food is horrendous. The location leaves a whole lot to be desired.
If you're looking for a deal check each hotel on the web. It's worth the trouble. The prices are always lower that way. Almost all hotels are suitable for families. It just depends on how much you wish to spend.
I'd opt for the Orleans or someplace else just just steps off the strip before I'd waste my time or money on Circus Circus. You and your parents would be far happier. On the strip I'd check out Bally's, Treasure Island or even the Flamingo (older). We generally stay at or south of Flamingo Blvd. and find Bally's very inexpensive and convenient. The cost depends on what is going on in Vegas that week. If you're flexible you can save a great deal of money by changing the week you plan to go based on hotel prices.
Here's a map of the strip. If you can find a place near the middle you'll be best off. You'll be doing far more walking than you could imagine.

While at the site click around for all kinds of information.
Have fun!!!

Circus Circus is a real DUMP!! There are many things there for kids, but the rooms are outdated and a awful. Take a look at www.tripadvisor.com. When I stayed there the phones in the rooms didn't work, there was so much dust in and on the furniture I could write my name. Try looking at MGM or Harrah's.

Yes, it's true you usually get what you pay for. We walked in (and right out) of the casino, it was heavily penetrated with cigarette/cigar, so were our clothes. Not surprising considering the age of the hotel. I have to admit, we were very impressed with the room. It had a very spacious bathroom that was nicely decorated. I personally think the rooms are much better than those at Excalibur. The kids will absolutely love it here! (The kid's areas don't smell like smoke at all.)

It's outdated and at the old end of the strip...you may want to look into the Treasure Island Hotel. Check it out through expedia.com you will get price quotes and reviews from other travellers that have stayed there.

It is off the main part of the strip, but perhaps that saves you some money. There are a cluster of Casinos around it but you're far away from the Bellagio, etc... If you can live with that it might be a good buy.

pros: cheap + kids will be OK with it.
cons: old, out of date, crowded with irritating people, much less of an experience than other good hotels in Vegas. Go once if you have to for the kids sake, then try something different in the future.
