Those aren't your only options. Have your wife talk to her ob/gyn. Like others have mentioned, there is the diaphragm, IUD, shot, patch, different types of the pill and sterilization (if you are finished having kids). The condom can't be much fun for either one of you. Check out your options!

Diaphragms. Easy effective barrier method.
Does not mess with, hormones, libido or mood and is as good as it gets for effectiveness against pregnancy.
Insertion is no worse than a condom and allows for multiple encounters in an evening.
Over the years we have used the pill, condoms, IUD, diaphrams
and finally a vasectomy. The least troublesome was the diaphram
assuming that we were still having children sometime. The vasectomy was final.

We've used both in the past but I hate the way condoms feel so right now I'm using just the pill.

Birth control pills are a lot better. Condoms always hurt when we used them so we switched to birth control pills.

Condoms are a drag, especially if you're in a committed, monogamous relationship. I would leave it up to your wife, though. I would never expect a woman to play around with her hormone levels unless she was absolutely okay with the idea. If she agrees to go on them, try the different products on the market, especially if she has problems initially. There are different variations, including some that limit her periods and others that help with weight gain and skin problems. My wife had a horrible time on Depo-Provera (the shot), so we got her off that and on Orthro Tri-Cyclen, which worked well. Their are also IUDs, vaginal rings, and several other methods that might work for you, too.

I would do birth control if youre putting off having kids for a while, if you are still undecided or planning on trying to get pregnant soon I would continue using condoms.

If you plan on having or trying to have kids anytime in the near future keep on doing what you are doing. If you are not planning to have children anytime soon then you should go to a good ob/gyn and talk to him/her about all the different forms of birth control and decide what is best for both of you.

I have been using the pill for most of my adult life; it worked beautifully, but you have to remember to take them every day. Some women "forget" - and they end up pregnant, and then say: I dunno, I was on birth control! As long as she thinks she can remember to take one every day - I would say, the pill is better; most people prefer not to wear condoms if they can.
