I have just moved into a new place. On the paint above my shower/tub there is a black meldew or mold growing, I am going to repaint the bathroom with a mildew resistant paint, but what do I do to get rid off the stuff before I paint? Bleach or a cleaner of some sort? Thanks

1. Test the stains by washing with some warm water and mild detergent. Ordinary stains will wash out, but mildew won't. If the stains don't wash out, gently sand them out with 150-grit sandpaper.

2. Put on some rubber gloves and eye protection before you wash walls with bleach, which will kill the mildew spores. After the bleach treatment, wash mildew away with some TSP solution or a phosphate-free substitute, then rinse the area with clear water. Allow the wall to completely dry.

I have owned and operated a cleaning business for 18 years.I run into this problem often. The easiest way to get rid of mildew is to buy a Mildew remover. There are several to choose from.Scrub Free,Tilex, etc.they all work basically the same. The best part of using these products,is the ease with which they get rid of the mildew.Just spray the mildew, and wait.DO NOT SCRUB.The mildew will magically disappear on its own.Spray as needed. The mildew will return in time if there is no ventilation.Even with mildew resistant paint, there is still a chance that you may have some, but now you know the secret!Good Luck.

If the mould is decrease than the paint the bleach and chemical compounds you employ now to scrub/kill it won't attain it by way of color masking it. in case you are able to thoroughly sparkling it with bleach answer, repaint. i like to apply the Kiltz yet no longer the water based one. the mould will return except you ventilate. you like a sturdy bathing room fan and run it for a sturdy 15-20 minutes after a tub. do no longer forget approximately the paint is barely mould resistant no longer mould data

one part of bleach and 4 parts of water is the best.....although is smells, i come back with 1 part of ammonia water and 4 parts of water for clean up...caution: do not mix ammonia and bleach to gether!!! ammonia is a acid and bleach is a base....mix together causes a severe reaction...ammonia water is found in all stores in the cleaning aisle
