You've been in a marriage where you spouse controlled everything. You finally get the courage to leave him. Then the first time you go to pay your rent, you notice that money now has "color" in it other than green. When you comment on it, the landlady says, "Honey, money has been that way for quite awhile!" She knew my situation. We both cried.

The sad part is there are lots of ladies in controlling marriages and they dont see a way out. See, when you say " I Do", life is suppose to get better. Two people thinking, working and taking care of things as one, but the key is two people.

My wife had a controlling first husband and it has taken several years to get her out of that pattern. she would call me at work and ask if she could buy something. I have always told her, " if we need it, can eat it, use it, buy it!!"

Your better off, but always keep your eyes open and dont end up like that again. Life should be fun, enjoyed between two people.

God, I would be depressed....for about ten minutes.

Then I would get pissed off and decide that I would reeducate myself so I need only rely on myself.

You had the courage to leave. Now find the courage to forge ahead. You are braver and smarter than you realize.

It would make me sing "Amazing Grace", and focus on the part where, " I once was lost, but now Im found, was blind, but now I see" -colors, on money!

Congrats....you have some of the best times of your life in front of you...find you , fall in love with you, romance "you". Light some candles and drink a glass of wine infront of the fireplace for "you". And have many many awsome dates with yourself. Love yourself, as you have never loved it before. It's the best experience, I *promise* ;-) Welcome to singlehood and actualizing your dreams....it's a beautiful dance.

I would be even happier that i got out of such a controlling relationship, yet i would still feel remorse that i wasted all those years on somebody like that.

You've really had it rough, but it took real guts to walk away and make a new life for yourself. Congratulations, you'd be a good speaker at women's groups and refuges, living proof that women CAN make it alone.I wish you good luck and happiness. x

Welcome back, sister! Congratulations on making a hard, but smart decision and having the courage to follow through. I did it 20 years ago, and it is still the bet thing I ever did for my kids and myself. More power to you!
