It has been my experience that northern and southern cities are different. Historically they were built on different occupations. The north has always been more industrial as the south and this shows in parts of the cities, Detroit especially.
I am talking mostly east coast.
I have lived in Detroit, Atlanta, San Francisco and Chicago.
