On Oct. 13 I was bit by a Brown Recluse spider. When I began getting red streaks going down my arm 3 days later I went to the doctor. The doctor agreed that it probably was a Brown Recluse based on symptoms (others besides those listed here), appearance of the wound and the fact I've killed several around my house recently.
I didn't nor do I now have the dying tissue symptom. He gave me anti-biotics and told me it would take some time to heal. This was not my regular doctor but his associate. My concern is the lingering lightheadness, foggy thinking, nausea, and vision problems. Plus I still feel weak and generally not well. The venom at the site is no longer a large tender lump under the skin but seems to have dispersed. Where has the venom gone?
My family thinks I need to go back to the doctor though I don't think he can do much. I think all this will eventually pass and that it takes time to recover from the venom in my body. Should I be concerned or wait it out?

Hi, and sorry to hear about the bite! Those things can get REAL nasty, REAL quick. I have a link, that says it's for a brown recluse bite first aid kit, but it also shows pictures and gives you a lot of pointers and problems to look out for. WARNING--the pictures might make you sick to your stomache, they are graphic--but show more of the 'worst case scenarios' (probably to sell their product easier, not all get that bad!) Here's that link:

This next link also has photos of brown recluse spider bites, but has it in varying stages of the bites...which would probably help you determine how far/how bad yours might be. They are slightly graphic, but nothing like the first link.

Finally, this last link will help you in more ways then one. It tells about the brown recluse, it's habitats, where generally located, and has tips on how to control an infestation (since you've been killing them around your home), and also has first aid treatments for bites, as well as medical misdiagnosis of these bites.

I hope you heal quickly, and easily!

You should go back to the doctor...may be more going on with the bite than you are aware of. Brown Recluse spider bites have been known to kill people; maybe there is an anti-venom you could be given.

Everyone is different and of course adapt differently. It also makes a difference if you've been bit before and where and lastly the amount and quantity of the venom.
Yes by all means get to the doctor! Your body is fighting it and it has traveled well through your blood and by the sound of it your organs are desperately trying to break it down and rid it from your body.
Get an exterminator and it would be wise to have one of these kits as backup.

Good luck to you and prayers for your full recovery!

Oh NO so scarey saw results of these bites and don't mean to scare you but that lump may have dying tissue under it and can become a severe ulcer after it has eaten through all of the tissue to the bone. go to a different dr. eckkks my god poor thing. Hope it was a mistake of identity of the spider!

From what I hear, it can take alot longer than a month to fully recover from all of the symptoms, but if you are really worried, there is nothing wrong with a follow-up with the doctor to voice your concerns and get some answers as to when he thinsk you might be seeing a change in the lingering symptoms.

Please go see the Dr. again. . . I was bitten about 4 years ago on the ankle, sought out treatment immediately and to this day, the area is still tender at times. I was assured that the venom was taken care of with the antibiotics, but I believe that there is some residual tissue and/or nerve damage.

The venom has dispersed throughout your blood stream and you body's immune system will destroy it over time. I hope that you were given antibiotics to help your body fight this poison and get rid of it. If the symptoms persist for another week I would return to the doctor.

I agree w/the family and think you should go back and just get checked over again. Better safe than sorry. I would also invest in the pest control in your area and have your house and outside area sprayed.
Good luck and hope you feel better soon.
