There is an old western song about a ww2 soldier with a deck of cards instead of a bible, and how he explained the reason why to his chaplain. It's called the deck of cards.

that's an excellent question. but then maybe the answer to your theories have to do with who invented the cards and what they based it on. If it was based on the year, then maybe it could have been just a coincidence or it just seemed to make a lot of sense to them that way.
and by the way, there are 13 cards in each suite. 13 X 4= 52 cards.

Yes, someone has a whole bunch of time on their hands. There are also 13 cards in a suit, not 12, so there goes your theory.

The card games that we know were originally invented in the 12th century when paganism was the dominating religion rather than christianity.
Paganism is built around the changing of the seasons and the worship of mother earth therefore the original games were built around this point.
This, of course, is complete bull. There have only been twelve months since the gregorian calendar was invented in the 16th century.
There is no correlation between the 2. Only coincidence.

if you include the jokers, as i think you should, then there are 54 cards, whats more ace to ten to jack to king is 13 not 12 and what do you mean by dots on the cards?
intersesting/uninteresting fact: modern day playing cards are based on tarot cards which are based on occultism which is based on the observance of nature, hence four suites four seasons.

there are thirteen cards to each suit (incidentally, there were 13 months in the roman calender)
After a quick search, these web sites have some awesome ideas and information

Probably the cards are deliberately created like this, to have some relevance to original card players. Or maybe just a massive coincidence.
