I wish that I was, like at the beach when kids will ask me to join their game of volleyball but I'm too shy. Or once on vacation a guy said he'd take my picture with him for a quarter, but I just laughed and walked away. Why can't I just do these kind of things?

You must be thinking of how other people might think of you and that stops you from acting the way you wanted to. You don't need other people's approval, besides you seem to be a very sensible person and you think first before you act. You are fine being who you are but if you really like to be spontaneous get rid of being a shy person. Engage yourself in conversations with people who are but acquaintances, simple as it is I sure hope it will work and shake off the shyness away.

Wow what a strange combination of examples there is a difference between being spontaneous and just plain not careful. The volleyball I can understand but the pix for a quarter HECK NO. You can be spontaneous but first you need to learn the difference between being fun/having fun/joining in and being dumb to be liked. Nope the the pix....yes to just trying new things that are SAFE and NORMAL.

Some people are just shy, it's not wrong to be that way. Most of the world is extoverted. You might try taking the Meyer's Briggs personality test as well. It helps to understand that you're fine with the personality you have.

Perhaps because your family didn't inspire of allow your spontaneity to be developed. You need to go back to the source of your shyness, find it and fix it your own way.

im like that too. hm....dont ask yourself WHY u cant do them. you CAN. its just ur not interested. its alright to be reserved and shy about stuff. so am i. there's no problem with u either. you have ur own hobbies! :)
