I'm guessing you're in the UK....it's still a Chrysler over here.
I've had one and really liked it. The Neon has a better spec. as standard than most British cars - air con., elec mirrors and so on...the only drawback for me was the high insurance group (same as a BMW 3 series!!) and the disappointing power in higher gears. Other than that, it was stylish, economical with fuel and easy to drive.
Cheap to buy - very little 2nd hand value, so you can pick up a really good one for not much money.

I used to work in a Chrysler dealership and the Neon was a heap of s??? The build quality on it was awful, trim, gearboxes, electrics the list is endless. It was noticeably worse put together than the rest of the range which werent too bad. Dont buy 1 as there is alot better out there for the same money.

I hate to go against the crowd here, but I had a Neon and loved it! I would buy another one if I didn't have a gaggle of kids. I was rear-ended and there was NO DAMAGE. Granted, it was at a fairly slow speed, but it was enough to break the tow thingy (sorrry, my mind blanked) off of the guy in front of me that I hit due to it.
If you're looking at one, get a manual transmission though because I did hear a lot of horror stories about the automatics and bad transmissions. I had a manual and never had any problems. I traded it in for 3100.00 at over 100,000 miles.

Uhhhh....good luck. This is 2006 almost 2007, maybe they make them better now, but I bought one the very 1st year they made them - 1995 and everything was "okay" with the car until about 6 months after I made the last car payment. I had taken the car to the shop 3 wks earlier for its 60,000 inspection and "everything was fine". HAH! 3 wks later the transmission fell out of the bottom of my car - rendering it undriveable and totalled. But I did buy one the very first year they made them....maybe they've worked the kinks out now.

Has to be cheap and needs to be a manual. Remember its an American made car so won't have the quality finish you'd get in a Eurpoean car, but there's nothing much wrong with them, look different and that means a lot in a car-clone world. Reliability is ok, not fantastic, but if you look after it should be ok.

Absoluely not. Nasty build quality, naff styling, limited space inside, and apparenly a dull car to drive. If you're after a small family car, a Focus, or a later Escort if you're on banger money, would be a better choice. Probably easier to sell on too.
In America they got a hot SRT/4 model, but that's probably understeer hell.

We had a Neon and I really liked it. The only 2 bad things are : 1: squeaky brakes, and 2: No resale value. Other than that, it's great.

They are pretty good little economy cars, but never buy any used 4 cylinder car with over 100,000 miles its just not a good idea.
