You didn't say how old he is, or how physically able he is. Construction is not always easy, and is not always full of "low-lifes" as suggested by another answer. There is always a big demand for people that will show up and do a decent day's work. I know three people that have major construction companies, with lots of work, and if a man proves he's reliable, they are more than willing to keep that person on and pay them accordingly, regardless of a record or education level.
My husband has done 26 years of a 41 year sentence, and will be too old to work if he lives to get out. Some of the men co-indicted with him also had low levels of education, and didn't have a lot of options when they got out. They bar-tend, bounce, and work other bar-related jobs. Those take street-savvy skills, not college degrees.
If his crime was white collar, your dad may have a hard time getting someone in an office situation to take a chance on him.
Most of all, tell him do not lie to a prospective employer. They'll fire him for that faster than anything else. Good luck.

Mostly skilled trades but even in certain areas he will have to go through background checks. For the most part he can find a decent paying job I'm the skill trade sector. Me personally I will work on a job that pays decent long enough to save money and start my own small business. Something like landscaping or such. Also he can drive trucks if the felony is long enough, because most companies want it to be 5,7, or 10 years old and a good driving record in the past 3 yrs to 5. No more than 1 or 2 DUI in the past 5 to 7 yrs. There is life after a conviction you just have to work extra hard for it to be comfortable in your situation. Good luck.

A convicted felon can apply for any job he wants to apply for but it is up to the potential employer to hire him. Your dad may want to consider apprenticeship programs where he could learn a trade like construction or accounting they pay you while you are learning and in the process you get licensed and/bonded in a trade.

Most people don't know this, but the biggest reason the question about felonies is on most job applications has nothing to do with "weeding" out "bad" people. It's because employers get a $10,000 tax break from the Fed. Gov't. for hiring felons. Tell your dad to apply anywhere he can. Someone WILL hire him, especially if he's a non-violent offender.

Your father can apply for any job... but he might easily be rejected because of the felony. I would recommend that he send out thousands (NOT just dozens or hundreds) of resumes (resume should NOT mention the felony... that comes later on an application or during the interview if it's asked) to all potential employers in his area. He can not be picky... someone will hire him if he interviews well and can benefit the company. Good luck.

look he can apply to any job as long as he tells them he has changed and now wants to do something with his life, when he goes for an interview, and let him be real, he can get any job as long as he decides to change his ways and be true and speak from the heart
