aren't there any positives to video games. like socializing (online or family time)

There's socializing if you play Co-op modes or multiplayer. MMORPGs like World of Warcraft are simple enough that the entire family can ejoy.

Video games help you have fun, destress, etc... There are lots of benefits to Video games.

Socializing can work if you're playing multiplayer games, I know I play video games with my friends all the time. (and I mean physically visiting a house, although online play might work with voice chat)

Depends on what kind of games you play. Some work on your hand-eye coordination, some build your problem solving skills, and there are a couple out there to exercise your mind (Brain Age and Big Brain Academy).
