I'm interested in getting involved in Civil and Revolutionary War reenactments, and I was wondering what and how many period clothes I will need to start. I'm 20, female, and in college.

I have a friend whose brother was married in a Civil War reenactment ceremony. Sounds like fun.

I belong to the Daughters of the American Revolution. We had a woman reenact with period clothing that was layered from a very fancy party dress with the hat and gloves to what she would wear to a tea party, to what she would wear having people come to her home to visit, to working around the house and in the garden, to going to bed, to taking a bath, and taking everything off. She had a leotard underneath, so she was able to layer and layer and layer. It was very dramatic, and extremely interesting! She spoke as if she was actually in that particular situation with each piece of clothing she had on, including hat, night hat, gloves, shoes, along with purse.

I consistently theory it got here approximately with horseback driving or war. the two of those could be difficult to do wearing a gown. adult males getting back from war or doing familiar driving might merely initiate wearing them continuously. women on the different handcrafted the clothing...and which of those could be least difficult to construct - the gown. besides, you could't ignore relating to the religious implications and impacts of ladies wearing outfits. there's a Bible verse that states that adult males ought to look adult males and females like women. some (no longer me in my opinion) have interpreted that as a reason women ought to placed on purely outfits or skirts.
