You save energy BECAUSE you have to pay for it, not in spite of the fact that you have to pay for it.
You take the money you save and buy yourself something else. Or pay off a debt and save interest. Or save it and add interest.
Just installing energy efficient light bulbs, turning off instead of using standby, and installing Economy 7 and running the washing machine on a timer switch will save you a tidy sum.

Or carry on taking fivers out of your wallet and setting fire to them for spite, its your call.

Why must people slate people when they ask questions like this. It is the same with water bills and hose pipe bans. Why should we? How do you know if this person uses a provider that uses coal etc or if his provider uses green sources? Continuing using fossil fuels at the same rates can not be sustained! BUT why not push for the building of wind farms etc. then surley it doesn't matter how much energy we use?

The only people that can do this are the government in conjunction with the energy companies.

Since energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only makes sense to conserve it. And Energy will be conserved, whether you like it or not.

you'd be saving your own money. plus it helps the environment, so if you use less energy, you'll be helping the ozone and the constant temperature rise, which is causing the world to go crazy

Because you have to pay for it!

If you are mega rich (or American) then spend as much as you like coz us plebs in Europe will save the environment for you.

If not then why pay to keep your DVD player on stand-by when you're not using it? You can pay to keep mine on if you like :).
