Get a Mac, the recent Mac have been compared to comparable Dells and are actually coming up cheaper.

People who say get PCs have not used a Mac.

The current OS - Tiger is what Vista will look like. But Tiger is being replaced by Leopard. So tomorrow Window's OS is Apples soon to be replaced OS.

The currect generation of Apple Computers can run Windows, if you really feel the need.

Apples don't have viruses or stuff. They don't get the blue screen of death.

And best of all their support is great, if you want to speak to someone who knows what they are talking about and who speak English, then get a Mac.

If you live near a bigger city, many now havef Apple stores with Genius bars, here people can fix your computer right in front of you, they can answer questions and have free classes to teach you how to make the most of your software.

Apple hands down is a better computer....BTW 2005 - Apple got notebook of the year, desktop of the year and server of the year. Can't do any better then that.

There are three big digital photo management tools for the Mac: iPhoto (designed for home consumer use), Aperture (Apple's own professional level photo management application), and Adobe's Lightroom (still currently in beta). All of these are designed for managing your photos - titling, organising, some fairly simple editing with old versions saved automatically.

For advanced editing, I assume Adobe Photoshop is still the way to go - as you have a photography business, you'd probably know much more about that than me.

If you have an Apple Store near you, you can go in and try the computers there. Ask a staff member if any have Aperture installed as well as iPhoto.

Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop are available for PC as well. I don't know anything about other PC photo applications.

Mac and PC laptops with the same specs generally cost the same. However, Apple only offers 2 laptop models - the Macbook (aimed at consumers) and the Macbook Pro (aimed at professionals), each with 2 or 3 marginally different configurations at different prices. There are hundreds of PC manufacturers, all offering many different models with many different specs, so you will be able to find plenty of PC laptops cheaper than Macs.

With Macs, you will find the passionate worldwide user base - many of whom are answering with strongly pro-Mac arguments right now, I suspect :) - able and willing to help with any problems you have adjusting to life on the Mac if you choose to go that way. It's definitely worth playing around with one at an Apple Store to see if you like the emphasis on simplicity.

If you can wait until next spring, both Windows Vista and Mac OS 10.5 (the next version of the Mac operating system) will be out, and should come with whichever machine you get. That will be a less expensive way to keep on the cutting edge, but be warned: all operating systems tend to have a few bugs initially that will take a couple of months to get fixed in software updates.

It depends what you want and how much you can afford. A PC is alot cheaper, you can get all the storage space you want and almost any software will run on it. However, they are more vulnerable to viruses etc and they start to deteriate and become slower. A Mac however is brilliant for photo and video editing, they work perfectly with ipods etc, their fast performance lasts and they don't get viruses easily. However, they are rather expensive and many windows programs won't run on them unless you install a parallel desktop. If you've got the money go for a Mac, they have lots of advanced features and better performance than a pc. And if you have the windows xp/vista software then you can load that on and switch between mac and pc. However, you can get a decent quality pc that will last you a few years without the fuss of buying software that will run on it.

Macs come with sophisticated photo editing software; most people (including some professionals; depends on what you do with the photos) don't need anything more than they provide. Also, Macs have the best customer service of all home computers (according to Consumer Reports, anyway).
