scientists now beleive they can detect life on other planets, if it exists, do you beleive there is life, other than on earth, and would it scare you, if it is proved there was, and all this u.f.o. debate, proved to be true?

Aliens most definitely exist. Aliens have been moving about Earth freely for a very long time. This does not scare me a bit. I have encountered them twice in my life.

So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.

Why haven't we heard from them?

Perhaps they are not technologically advanced to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.

Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that flew by may be a surveillance craft.

Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.

Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.

Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.

It is really impossible to know for sure.

The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

Yes, I believe we are not alone. It would be pretty ignorant for us to assume that in a universe this large there is no other life but us. Saying that how do you determine what 'life' is? To scientists it may be something that can breath oxygen or is carbon based. Someone said in another post lots of conditions have to be met to define life. I don't believe that for a second. Other life out there may not be anything like us at all... they could be microscopic in comparison but that doesn't make them un-intelligent. They may not need oxygen to live - their physiology may be entirely different to us but that wouldn't make them less intelligent than us. Personally I think it'd be hard to find any other life form less intelligent than the human race.

I wouldn't be scared if there was other life out there. Far from it I think it would be a positive thing for the human race as a whole. Mankind have a lot of things that divide us - sex, race, colour, creed, religion, sexuality and now there's what clothes we wear and music we listen to. I think knowing that there's someone else out there and that we're not alone may come as a positive influence by helping many to see the bigger picture. Unless they want to harvest us for food or something - that wouldn't be kool. =/

Those who do fear at the possibility of otherworldly life probably do so partially because of things we have seen coming out of Hollywood and such - about alien invasions and the likes. Any visitors would probably be met with fear and hostility on our parts and if they know that they would probably consider us too primitive to approach anyway. If I was an alien visiting Earth all I'd see is violence, war and conflict - that seems to be the only constant that mankind has managed to stick to. I wouldn't be impressed nor would I want anything to do with us.

The reason they don't want to believe that, is that religion will have to explain about Adam and Eve in other planets and the collection plate will be empty. Unless they prove that there is a different God in each of the habitated planet, they could be some kind of energy that we do not recognize as human beings and they may not breath oxygen like us. I hope they are not roaches, because I have a few aliens close by.

Pfft! I would love to learn that there is in fact alien life! And yes, I do beleive that there are other life forms in other solar systems and galaxies.I mean think of it this way:We're orbiting around an average sized star in the outer arms of the milky way galaxy. That galxy is a part of millions of other galaxies in just our little neighborhood. There are, in turn, hundreds of millions of "neighborhoods".Then, outside our universe, there are millions of other universes just like ours, so big and orbiting something much larger than that, possibly what religous faiths call "god".So if there's all that room and we're just a little dot, and we're the only life existing, then that means "god" is just plain ignorant (no offense to religous beleifs). But no, I do not beleive in little green men from mars with ray guns flying around in sliver saucers that have blinking lights.

You should believe it, we are already here. Over the centuries, your planet was a curious place to visit once or twice and was not considered very interesting . Sure, your wars showed us how undeveloped you are as a species. Your infantile,(in cosmic terms) dependence on god concepts does not bode well for you and neither does your penchant to breed beyond your planet's ability to sustain you. We are now showing an interest in you because it is not often that we get to observe a species commit suicide. You are so close to maturing as a sentient species and it will be a shame to see you kill yourselves. There are just not enough of you becoming rational enough to force the issue. You let the least among you determine your fate, so be it.

Besides the fact that thousands of conditions have to be met to sustain living organisms, i feel it impossible for this to happen only on earth. With the millions and trillions of stars and planets(not to mention this itself is only a theory, there may be more), it would be near impossible that these conditions have only been met ONCE here in our solar system.

If you took a thousand rubber balls some colored yellow and some blue, and scattered them in a room randomly. And it only takes a yellow rubber ball to land 1 inch from a blue ball to sustain life. Whats the chances of how many times a yellow ball could land 1 inch from a blue? They are high. Now imagine these figures being trillions of rubber balls. The chances are even higher. Even though the universe is big enough to scatter stars and planets far from each other. Its amazing how many are compacted in a galaxy.

One things is for sure, if we are the ONLY living organisms in are known universe, then GOD would be an interesting theory.

The existence of Alien life is a given. There IS life on other planets outside our Solar System. Not a single astro-physicist will disagree with this statement.

The question is ... Is there INTELLEGENT Life outside our solar system. This is the far bigger question and the one that no-one can answer (despite whatever anyone else might say).

Would it scare me? Too right it would! There is not a single religion/scientific belief on this planet that thinks we should be prime or even partners in galactic domination (and thats what it would be! we are not advanced enough to be part of a ruling galactic class whilst greed dominates all that we practice).

We would be slaves to any alien race that had enough technological skill to traverse the galaxy/universe.

Do you really believe we are the only ones in the entire universe??
NO WAY, have you ever stood underneath the milky way? i did in Australia it takes your breath away its mind blowing stuff, for anyone to say yep theres only us here is a FOOL!! NOW u.f.o.'S Roswell 1947 I believe it happened, there were too many witnesses, i personally know of very straight upstanding people who have seen what they believe as U.F.O.s. And at the end of the day the hard evidence of Aliens from outer space is right here on our doorstep they left a monumental landmark when they were here last....THE PYRAMIDS.

I believe that it is certainly possible and even probable that life other that that of earth exists. I see no reson that it would scare me. True it could be aggressive but then we aren't exactly pacifists. I think there is something to some of the UFO debate but as to whether it actually involved UFO's or something else is something the general public will probably never know. The universe is huge and in all probabliity there is more than 1 other form of life. But I require proof!!

Have you ever read a book about the human race is from outer space?
I for one wonder myself,if an alien were to come in a spaceship and land you'd be sure you wouldn't get the chance to see from the army would be there to kick you out of the way. They've been doing it for years and everybody knows it.
Ever read the Bible it says in most of the books about aliens.
That they were on this earth. If I were you take a good look at all the people (races)on earth and you tell us.
Not one race but many. Why do we have different skin for one.
