There is no simple answer to this question. Current machines cannot, but there is nothing concrete to say that they couldn't at some point in the future.

Computer science professors at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH indirectly coined the term "artificial intelligence" at a 1956 conference, but no one since, computer scientist, physicist, mathematician, or philosopher, has been able to demonstrate conclusively that it is theoretically possible or not.

Many scientists believe that it *is* theoretically possible, but not within the current paradigms of computer science based upon mechanical/electrical impulses. The most promising possibilities lie in biotech; somewhere along the lines of the "cyborgs" of popular culture.

Hi. Not yet. They are not self aware, so they do not 'think' in the normal sense, they mimic.
