most common meaning is the French "Repondez, s'il vous plait," which means "Respond, please."

Dear Honeybee: R.S.V.P. are initials for the French words:

Responde Sil Voux Plait - meaning Respond, please!

I know I will get "hit upon" for attempting to spell the French version. Sorry to anyone who knows proper French spelling - I simply can't remember, any longer, the correct way to spell it !!

Best regards, Lana
