If you are concerned with cost, and you want to file and uncontested divorce, you can hire a para legal. It is less expensive, it cost $200.00. And the divorce should be final in about 3-6 weeks. You can contact a para legal I had went to, and she is really, really good. Her business is called divorce with dignity para legal services. Phone is 510.523.7290 and the address is 1138 A Ballena Blvd, Alameda CA 94501. Give them a call and take it from there... Good luck

You can probably call them to get the amount.
I had my divorce in Alameda County, but I had an attorney. My brother got a divorce and they did it without attorneys.
As long as you two agree on things, then it is way cheaper to do the paperwork yourself.

Go to the courthouse and they have special fee waiver forms so you don't have to pay to file. This is anywhere in the state of California. And if you cannot afford a lawyer, try at least to hire a paralegal. There are a lot of forms to fill out. You will most definitely need some help.

you could use legal aid. if it is uncontested, you are just paying them minimal fees to make sure the paperwork is correct and file it ( and serve them) for you. Otherwise , you can go down to the courthouse and pick up the paperwork yourself and fill it out. There is like a $275 filing fee I believe. then 6 months after they have been served, you are free....

No, you don't need a lawyer.
You can go to a small claims divorce court with no lawyer necessary. Also, you can represent yourself.
