If so, please explain why. If not, then any theories about why others do?

If they are being obviously stupid or mean then occasionally/rarely I will give a snarky answer. Usually I ignore it and look for people who want honest answers to their questions. People do it to draw attention to themselves, or because they're bored, or any other number of reasons really. take your pick. No one HAS to be here so its not like it really matters if people get answers or ask stupid questions.. Its all what you want to put into it

I do, all the time. When people look at me and ask:

Do you play basketball?

or

How tall are you?

I fee the urge to reply and make them feel kind of stupid, especially if they are a total stranger.

Why?

I am 6'8" tall. It is not that I am sensitive about being above average in height, but people just need to learn some manners. When asked the 1st question, I reply "No, do you?" usually, and walk away. The second question is a lot more fun. Depending on my mood, I either reply "6'8", how short are you?" or "I don't know, how much do you weigh?"

I just do not understand what business it is of someone else, especially a total stranger, to ask something like that. I do not go around asking women their bra size or men what size underwear they have on.

Sorry if that sounded like I was venting. You asked for an explanation.

I have to admit I sometimes do feel this way.

Because I think it is the responsibility of the person asking a question to ask the right question in order to get the right answer!

There seems to be many lazy people on YA!

The Internet offers anyone who has access to it at least two things!

Global Communication!

A warehouse of human knowledge!

I try to resist the urge to be tacky as long as I can. But when I finally give in I realize it is time to check out.

I like to help. But I really only want to help those who really need help and not just those who are trying to jerk someones chain!

Yes, there are frequent times. This is due mainly to the facts of poor grammar and spelling, laziness (not taking the time to look things up themselves), or posting the same questions over repeatedly (which is better: PC or Mac). When Answers started I enjoyed it a great deal and had found an outlet for the vast pool of information I've gathered over the years. Now my feelings have drifted away from my initial enthusiasm due to the aforementioned.

All the time. Often its because what they say is so completely foolish that it is almost impossible for me not to respond in kind. Not because I mean it so much as I want to make them feel what they made others feel, just so they won't do it again (though it very rarely works, but at the time the anger is strong enough to where I lose reason).

Sometimes they just disagree with me and I admit I'm completely wrong then if I insult them. But it can be fun to do it anyway, though I don't do it with everyone who disagrees with me, just a few of them. We all have to be wrong sometimes, this is how I choose to do it.

Sometimes using words can be cathartic, especially on this kind of forum where you are anonymous. Its just about letting off steam and making yourself feel good or even superior. It is a good way of building confidence, listening to critism that is, or even giving it. I think that happens when life is giving you a hard time. Also some people are just downright nasty and get a kick out of trying to hurt other people. Its all about intent.

I used to, but then realized it's better to not provide them with an answer at all if they have made me come to that way of thought, generally because the question is something they could learn but are too lazy to do themselves, and that makes me somewhat irked. Others do this because of the ego, lack of self control, pride, being jaded, mental inferiority complex, being drunk, or just being ignorant and wanting to look cool.

Hell Yes!! I generally restrain myself though (most of the time).

The worst ones for me are the ones that say evolution can't be true because there are still monkeys around, and if we evolved from monkeys then they should be gone. I just want to reach through the internet and castrate these people so their genes won't be passed on to future generations.
