I'm 17 and my parents are making me pay rent.
I think that's pretty F'd up.

I think it is a great idea,, it helps them and helps you learn responsibility

If you are working then i agree you should pay your way . If you are are at collage or uni then i wouldn't expect you to pay until you finish and get your self a job. And if your not in any sort of education and you don't have a job i would get you to do work on and around the house to earn your keep and stop you getting bored :)

I intend on doing that to my children once they graduate High School. They may also be making that decision because you do nothing else to contribute to the family such as jobs around the house.

Or, maybe you have decided to act like an adult, so they are treating you like an adult. Adults have resposibility and pay their own way.

Do you have a job? I'm guessing it is less rent than you'd have to pay if you got your own place. If it's the same, you can always move out.
