I don't know about the best poems ever written, but I like Helen Steiner Rice.
Here is one of my poems:
Day Dreams
A spider spinning day dreams another day is gone, the meadow beyond the mountains.
The sun setting at dawn.
What a spider dreams about no one has a clue.
But aren't we all spinning day dreams?
How about you?
The spider is mysterious about, the web she spins.
When she is finished the day dream comes to an end.
Some webs are large, other are small.
One thing is for sure as she spins she has a ball.

That is one of my lighter, peoms most are full of emotion, and
the things I stand for and believe in.

I think I am. But, how are you describing 'poetic?' It could be the lowest form and most common, as in rhyming. I personnaly believe poetry is art, and art is everything art like. I roleplay, and consider that a poem. I also write, I consider it art. For example:
There it a pain,
A pain in her heart.
That cannot be soothed with any amount
Of medicine.

I have written poetry for several years. Rudyard Kipling's 'If' is one of my favourites and I aspire to that (if only I could). Sylvia Plath poems are alive with her spirit. Good poems are written by all poets and the list is simply endless.

I used to write when I was young
But now I don't have time
The lyrics of my life are sung
And I've run out of rhyme

But maybe when I quit my job
And rest beside the fire
A word or phrase perchance I'll lob
Some day when I retire.

Am I poetic, I do not know,
For words come, with a blow.
Soon the words on a page will smear
And in my lifetime, they'll disappear.
