thinkorswim.com very helpful as low as $5 transaction fees and tutorials on how to play the options games (which I haven't even started yet and probably wont for a few years) free downloadable tracking software is pretty decent too. But they do require a $3500 minimum.

sharebuilder.com is ok to INVEST not buy and sell $4 to invest but $15 (or so) to sell it. No minimums here optional plans can get you free investments and a slightly lower sell rate. To exchange to another broker its $50.

Scottrade is one of the best and cheapest. Only need $500 to start an account, 7$ a trade. Fast execution. I've heard that they're not the best for penny stocks, but I don't generally buy those.

I use Scottrade and each trade costs me $7. I do my own research, so I'm on my own when it comes to my investments. If you need help with research, some other companies will charge you $50 or more depending on your trade...and yes, it could even be hundreds of dollars for huge trades.

We use;
Scottrade, Schwab and Fidelity Brokerage.

Scottrade is great and cheap... but only use if you're an experienced stock trader.... or it will cost you more in what you don't understand.

I think the best "overall" broker is Schwab.

Good luck.
