the village although looks like it is set in the past is really an isolated park in modern US. The giant killer hedgehog is the adults way of keeping people in the village so they will not get tainted by the demons of modern life.

The blind girl does not see the modern utilities when she goes for the medicine so the secret remains safe and the village can continue to exist - great film

Basically, the elders of the "village" created the village after all of them met in a grief group, each person dealt with a violent act that either happened to them or a person they knew. They created the "village" to create a safe habitat for the people in it. The only reason the red head could leave the village to get medicine was because she was blind and would never see the truth.

The village looks like its set in the old times but its really set in modern times. The people in the village just wanted their village to stay simple and didn't want it to become modern like the rest of the world. so some of the people their made scary costumes and scaryed anybody who got in the woods or close to getting out so the other people would try to leave

once upon a time some people faced tragedy in the real word.
so they decide to go in the woods and create thier own psuedoworld, set in the past. they dress up as boar monsters to scare everyone(who wasnt one of the 'elders') else from leaving their town.

but then something happens, i forgot what, and the girl leaves the town, only to find out what i just wrote.

The "elders" all are victims of tragedy in the real world, so they moved into the woods to protect their children from what they view as a cruel world. They live in the style of colonial times, and their children don't know anything else, so they believe it to be real. "Those we don't speak of" are creations to frighten the children so they don't try to venture off and find the outside world. That's why they have to send the blind girl to get medicine...someone who was able to see the real world outside would have seen that it was modern times all along. (Although I don't know why one of the elders just didn't go...)
