I was on a waiting list for an apartment and finally got in. Woopee! Well I was shown the schematic and thought the apartment was on the front section at the end. Well she waited to show me the apartment until after I had already signed the lease, and this was after I put my notice in at my other apartment, and had asked 2 separate times. So, I live there now, down 5 flights of stairs, concrete, mind you, with a 2 year old and a 7 month old. I carry them up at 5am and down at 7pm, with 2 diaper bags and my school bag. I can't take them down and then get the bags because I'm a single mom and there's no one to watch them while I do this. So here's the deal I've fallen twice both times holding my children. Once down one set of stairs on my knees and had to have surgery, and one rolled with my daughter slipping on mud. I have a one year lease, but I'm worried with the winter months coming I won't be able to get us all up and down the stairs-Any suggestions?

The steps are very crooked and when it just rains they are very slippery. That's why I'm a little freaked about when the weather gets colder they will be evern worse.

I would talk to them and tell them the problems that you are having. maybe another apartment is available. I would also mention that you were under the impression that the apartment would be in another area. Are the steps slippery, wet or badly maintained, anything that would help your complaint or to break your lease? Did you do anything when you first found out the location of the apartment? ask for another unit, complain anything?

I don't know if they can be held responsible, because you should have DEMANDED to see the apartment before signing a lease and putting in your notice at the other one. It was your right to see where you'd be living, and that was not fair of her. Try and talk to her, and ask whoever is over the apartment complex, if you can change apartments. Explain your situation, and i'm sure they will understand...hopefully. Good luck.
