Yes crime pays. The criminals only profit temporarily, but crime keeps a lot of people employed. Like police officers, judges, attorneys, court reporters, bailiffs, wardens, jail guards, etc.
Were it not for crime, they wouldn't have jobs.

It's so human to try to buck "the" system any way you can, all the time.
It has always been that way. Ever since we became less furry and climed down out of the trees. Some people don't quite see that. They are somewhat busy trying to lie to themselves.
I suppose it's a forgiveable self-deception.

Some people have become extremely wealthy as criminals. More wind up in jail. Some wind up dead. It's what is known as a "high risk" profession. Why do you ask? Are you considering it as a career?
