Because the tile is a square, the side times itself is 3. You need to find the square root of 3. Use a calculator, punch in 3, then the square root button. You get 1.7320508

since you want your answer to the nearest hundredth, it is 1.73

You need to find the square root of the area of the tile.

I think your tile should be 6 inches to a side

A=L x W 3 sq feet = 36 sq in.

sq rt of 36 = 6

The tile should be 6 inches on each side.

3= x^2

Sqr(3) = x

Sqr(3) approx = 1.7321

or about 12 and 47/64th inches to the closeth inch possible
