Killing someone to show that killing is wrong. Odd ???

Well, you need to decide if you will write for or against the death penalty. If you are to write about both sides, then interview a few adults that you know and ask them what their views are about it. Try to get some interviews from the older generation when it was much more accpted as well as the younger generation that generally is appalled by it. Compare the two by the age gap and difference in opinion.

If you need to persuade against, you can argue that all peoples deserve life and a second chance. You can find statistics that "show" that some percentage of criminals can be succesfully rehabilitated.

If you need to persuade for the death penatly, you can argue that it is a healthy deterant to crime. You should be able to find statistics that "show" that crime has increased as the number of deaths by the death penalty have decreased.

As for my opinion, which you may use in your report if you wish, is that the death penatly should be used. It can be easily seen that 50 years ago, crime across the nation was low. As the death penalty has dwindled, crime has increased, and the intensity of the crimes have also increased. Thieves do not hesitate to kill to rob because the penalty for the crime is low and easily subverted by the leagal system and "good behavior". The death penalty acts as a deterant to crimes involving murder, rape, and reckless endangerment of life (where a life is lost due to negligence). Use of the death penalty also decreases the number of inmates in state and federal prisons which reduces operating costs. The cost of processing the "death row" inmates is high, but it only lasts for a short period. Whereas, prisoners serving life sentences will have a continued cost until they die of natural or unnatural causes.

I hope this helps you!

I read a few of the other answers you have gotten before I responded to your question, and I have to tell you that I think this is a poor way to do research on such a serious topic. Some of the answers a read ranged from nonsense to, well let's just say, uninformed. Kulag!?...... Really. You have a computer. Use it to get some hard facts about crime prevention and cost verses life in prison. Explore the spiritual or religious side. Do some research and then form your own opinion. The FBI has an excelent site with statistics on crime and I am sure that US News and World Reports does as well. Your web browser will find alot of sites for you, just type in crime and punishment. Good Luck!

I think it works. Not one person executed has returned to kill or harm anyone else.
The most serious problems with the death penalty is that Attoerneys have gotten control of the Judicial system and use it to enrich their pockets at tax payers expense.

There is no reason for a convicted killer like Ted Bundy to take over 10 years and millions of dollars defending him.
The main case he was charged with was killing a 12 year old(kimberly I think) he was driving her moms volkswagon, had her moms wallet with her moms credit cards on him, he claimed the car was his, and he never met either of them , than claime d he never saw the stolen car he was driving and pleaded innocent.
There should be exceptions and that was one of them.
The killer should have been convicted, sentenced and executed within 3 months. There was no excuse for tax payers paying for lawyers fees for this animal for over 10 yrs.
Plus Bundy defended himself(very well) and only used the attorneys as advisors.
Our Judicial system has become a welfare larder for slick rich lawyers looking for big bucks cases which will get them into the taxpayers pockets, and news media's print/tv.

Lawyers and liberals have turned our legal system into a promire of mistrust, graft, and theif.
Religion is also to blame for our legal trouble with execution. Recently when the guy walked in and killed those girls in the Amish school the parents showed more sympathy for the killer's soul than their own children getting justice. That sucked, and I have no respect fopr them now.
Religious and liberal attorneys intervention into our criminal justice systems , state and federal have left it in shambles.

This is a good subject and you can cover both sides, and be objective.

One thing for sure, the person will not hurt anyone again. so much focus on the "poor" criminal, what about the victim and their family? plus the cost to taxpayers. I read where it costs about $80,000/ year to keep a prisoner in jail. I really like Texas law where they put them in the speedy checkout lane.

it's cheaper but wrong
it's also very stupid how criminals that go to jail get free shelter, free food, water, etc. all payed out by the taxypayers
in my world, id throw them all into "kulags" basically a hard labor camp where they work till death building, cleaning, servicing the tax payers.

Death is to simple and easy. i say stick the person in a little room for their entire life or make them work, let them be miserable for years.

I THINK THAT ,IN AT LEAST SOME CASES, THE DEATH PENALTY SHOULD APPLY. FIRST DEGREE MURDER - DEFINITELY, ESPECIALLY FOR KILLING WOMEN AND CHILDREN. RAPE & CHILD MOLESTATION SHOULD BE PUNISHED BY CASTRATION AND A SLOW, EXTREMELY PAINFUL DEATH . WHAT DO YOU THINK??
