well there wasn't much they could do about the ruined cargo, but if they would have given the colonies an equal voice in the government, would not have treated North America so rapaciously and respected the colonists a bit, they might have staved off the conflict a bit longer. Eventually they would have wanted their freedom from England and it all would have happened anyway.
