I've just retired from teaching in international schools and receiving the letters from past pupils has given me the most perfect indication of the value my contribution has been to children around the world.
I don't mean to sound big-headed, but children are our most precious 'belongings', to be given the gift of teaching them is the most important thing in the world. They want to see the world and its people in the best possible light, they want to learn about every tiny object, they soak up information and yearn for more. Teaching is never, ever boring!
Where do I stand in the big scheme of things? I'm one of the lucky ones. I've given the gift of enthusiasm and joy to hundreds of children. What can be better than that?

My greatest achievement was getting out of my own way, and when I connect with and individual, it makes all the difference in the world.
