depends on your definition of hero. In the classical sense you could argue quite strongly that Achilles was the hero being the archetypal warrior. However modern audiences have tended to sympathise more with Hector who dies attempting to protect his homeland rather than achilles who simply fights for the love of battle.

It's really down to perception not facts

hmmm... Clive I would take out of the equasion. Hector as a hero seems to be a good thinking and so does achilles but what won the war? Acording to Homer it was how dumb the Trojans were in taking the horse into their city. But out of the two Hector is the hero of the war. But Ajax was an awasome charator

I imagine Achilles was, he got top billing from both sides of the line. As Oddyseus said, "let them say i live in the time of Achilles." I'm not basing it on the movie, either, but from what i remember of the Illiad. His character was more 'super-human' than human, while Hector was just the best warrior son of King Priam's. I thought Paris was a sissy, but that's another story.

If i had to choose the real hero in the trojan war, i would've picked Odysseus for his wisdom and coming up with the winning tactic that brought the ten year war to an end.

I agree that Hector was a true hero in the Trojan War. Achilles was simply a warrior. Achilles achieved hero status in other battles, but in order be a hero one must be fight FOR something, as you said.

Everyone remembers Hector and Archilles - but everyone forgets Clive.
He was the REAL hero in the Trojan War.

You might be right - Achilles was a big girl's blouse a lot of the time - weeping and sulking in his tent. His relationship with Patroclus sounded a bit dodgy too. Hector was the stout defender of Ilium's sacred towers!

Destroying Priam's citadel for Menelaos, well didn't she want to run off anyway ?

Personally, I like Cassandra. Did you read the epic poem, or watch the completely different story in the Hollywood film? It is like comparing Simba's Pride to a David Attenborough documentary.
