What is your slant? Im attempting an essay question on freewill for psychology, if anybody knows any good writings/texts that are worth reading by any psychologists that would be good also. However for fun could you state why you take a slant either way?

Try

Nowak A., Vallacher R.R., Tesser A., Borkowski W., (2000) Society of Self: The emergence of collective properties in self-structure. Psychological Review 107

gives a good Pyschological perspective as well as Daniel Dennett- Elbow Room, or Freedom Evolves.

Koons, J.R. "Is Hard Determinism a Form of Compatibilism?" in The Philosophical Forum. 33:1

Outlines these two concepts.

I think if your talking about the concepts you need to look at the philosophy of them. Once you've established a position Psychology is what enables people to study and predict how a person is either Determined to act or Will Chose To act.

I believe in both free will and fate, most of my life has been based around free will but there are quiet a few things that have happened that I honestly have to say were down to fate.

It's proven that on average, people who believe in free will are happier as they feel they have control.

My personal slant is free will, but you're pushed by a number of factors (e.g. social rules, parenting, peer pressure, hormones etc.)
