I think that rumsfeld picked the weakest country in the middle east to pick on... Yeah, the 9/11 terrorists were mostly Saudi, not a single one was Iraqi, Osama Bin Laden is Saudi too, and some say he has or had ties to the royal family. But Saudi Arabia is a US ally or something, I don't know why, for all the talk about bringing democracy to the middle east Saudi is certainly no example. Iraq basically had no friends in the middle east besides Syria which is not very strong, so there was no real backlash to attacking Iraq and yet it would be high profile and it also has plenty of oil wealth.

The only possible good thing that could come out of all the mess that has been made in Iraq would be for the long-overdue establishment of a kurdish state, but that probably won't happen.
