It's because the nerves that supply the bladder leave the spine at the sacral level so in asking that question, it could be a way of establishing if there is any damage to the spine at this level.

If you have a Kidney infection, it will swell and cause presure onthe surrounding nerves which will cause the back pain.It will be the same if you have kidney stones, other organs in the body can have the same type of symptome.

Inability to control your bladder is a sign of acute spinal cord compression at the base of the spine. This is a serious condition which he had to ask you about because it needs to be referred immediately and if you had it and he didn't ask his *** would be grass.

i had a bad back and was screaming in agony and my b/f at the time (now my husband) took me to he drs and i was given valium which knocked me for six. 4 weeks later i was still no better on coming off the pills which worried my mum and she took me back to see my GP who was originally on hols and told him to test my urine there and then and he did and i had a severe kidney infection, and my kidneys were failing or something. it turned out the dr i saw to start with assumed it was through having sex ( i was 12!!!!!!!) and thats what she put in mynotes, and it was only because my b/f carried me ino the surgery and i didnt walk!!!

sometimes, when you have back pain it can be a sign of a kidney infection, or kidney stones or maybe your kidneys something in the urinary tract so don't over look it. it sounds like a strange question but sometimes it does mean something. in your case hopefully not.....wish you well.
