One of my friends is receiving nasty e-mails from a hotmail account. Can it be traced? She has replied but no response!

you can just trace the IP address of sender. And finding the user of the IP address takes hell loads of time. You need to find country of origin, ISP who uses this IP and computer who used this IP.

Yes, you can trace any email account if you know how. Change your headers to Full, not basic, it's in the Options section of hotmail. That will give you the originating IP address and go from there.
