There is a lot to know about Medicare Veteran's benefits. Certainly calling your Veteran's representative is a good idea. Another good place to call would be your local Area Agency on Aging.

If you live in the United States or one of the territories, there is an Area Agency on Aging serving your county. You can call toll-free 1-800-677-1116 to find out the one serving you. Each Area Agency on Aging has professionals available to answer questions just like this one. You will most likely find the people there friendly and very helpful--and they are not selling a particular Medicare policy or plan.

If you do contact your local Area Agency on Aging and like the help that they give you, let your local county officials and your folks in Congress know, too. Area Agencies on Aging don't have big budgets and the limited money they do have is spent for services and not for advertising-- this is one of the reasons why they are one of the best kept secrets around for seniors and their families.

Hope this helps! Good luck and best wishes!

Try medicare.gov This will give you a web site where you can compare prices for medications. Prescriptions through VA are a lot cheaper especially if you are able to use generics. Medical care through VA, not so good. The best thing to do is have a private medicare physician for medical care who is willing to work with VA for your prescription care. I have patients that do this and it works great. It also gives you better options for home health care, physical therapy, medical supplies, etc.

I would check out two web sites. The VA site and the medicare site. OR I would just call the VA and ask, I am sure they would know.
