If you are riding off road with your family, it's when you fit the bike. My brothers started riding at 5 years old because they could touch the ground on our little Z50 Honda then. On road, you have to be 16 in the US and have a motorcycle license.

I have my motorcycle permit. I'm 16 and live in CA. Motorcycles, here, are defined as anything that has more than 249cc of power. In order to get you motorcycle licsense you must complete a "motorcycle safety course" that is endorsed by the CHP (california highway patrol) and that usually costs $150 for minors $250 for adults. then you have to pass a written test and that's it!!

Most states have restrictions on size of motorcycle and age. In Oklahoma it is 250cc, and 14 years of age. Good luck, and remember to sign up for the motorcycle riding course in your area.

I got my first bike when I was 14, my wife actually started on dirt bikes when she was 5. Her dad would hold her up on her Honda 50, she would get going then when she wanted to stop she would ride back over to her dad and he would catch her before she fell over.
