Its all pschology. Certain bright colours such as red get a persons attention. Advertisers know this and certain things in stores are packaged in red wrapping.

I don't know about Candy,..
With Flavoring and Food Dyes some people are Allergic to certain Colors (like I am allergic to one of the reds) and some people are allergic to some things used in candies and drinks (people are allergic to Caramel,...)... when you are allergic to something a reacvtion might be you crave it more (so if I have something with the red I am allergic to in it, I will want it more and over consume,.. the same with my mom and Caramel coloring used in Pepsi).

I know with colors in general (not edible only, but just seeing these colors) your emotions can be effected. Like red draws attention and makes you more impulsive. So it probably isn't just the candy by it's self, but also it's wrapper and packageing effecting people. Then there are people with mental and vision problems so they react differently then what is "normal". Color can also increase or decrease the size of something as far as your subconcious is concerned.

All I can say is that I avoid red candy (Spree is the worst!). I can taste the red dye - it has a bitter, waxy flavor that I find disgusting. Many people think it's my imagination, but I know I'm not the only one! Wilton's candymaking company manufactures food coloring in two reds: one is "unflavored".

Probably not much help to you, but there's my 2 cents' worth...

I don't know if this is still valid but I did an expirement in school about m & m's and they said that they try to keep a larger quantity of brown m & m's in each package because it reminds people that they are eating chocolate.

one candy is enough to tell me if i would want any more of it. it's not about the colour, it's about the taste. and i may not even finish one candy if i didn't like it's taste.
