Amsterdam: yes we do have high schools in the UK, our local school was called 'Bebbington High School'.
anyway that out of the way ...

Advantages:
Gives access to a wider range of information than is often available in school libraries via internet.
Opens up a world of presentation options not normally asociated with pen and paper - essential in a world where graphics and media play a key role in society.
It is a wonderful way of intergrating those kids who would otherwise be at a disadvantage for being less acedemic, having learning dificulties (i.e a bright kid who has trouble actually writing things, is able to truely manifest their ability through IT)
Internet access meens information available to students is as up-to-date as possible, something that even the best textbooks can fall short on.
Teachers are able to better comunicate with their students through the use of student community websites and emails, (ie the quasi anonimity given by online comunication may encourage students to be more open about issues such as bullying).
IT better facilitates the proces of administering homework and marking it for the teachers.
Different softwear programes mean that teachers can teach to a variety of different learning styles more easily, engaging all the senses and memory processes, better than with conventional methods.

Disadvantages:
Having information easily available online can hinder the child learning investigative and research skills as well as possibly shortening the attention span.
Due tot he nature of the nternet, it can not be garaunteed that information found on the internet is true, valid etc - much harder to verify than published texts.
The use of IT in teaching can alienate the teachers from the students, thus making social interaction and identification of problem areas more difficult.
The ease and speed of IT may mean that students fail to learn more traditional methods, or favour the ease of IT over the solidity of non-IT methods (i.e. using spell check instead of learning how to spell well inthe first place).
IT in schools is often designed for solitary use and therefore can be detrimental to the development if social skills.
Teachers may not be as active in their teaching of their subject, infact may become lazy allowing IT to serve as the informant rather than their own skills.

Im sure their are a few more but i can't think of them right now.

Disadvantages - distraction to the point of addiction, cheating, they get stolen and either the student/parent wants the school/teacher to be responsible for it, parents call the school in a panic whenever there is a lock-down because they found out faster than the teachers did, a new way of bringing porn to school, pictures/videos of students/teachers/fights end up online, etc. Advantages - They can call their parents when they need a ride. Or they could just go to the office.

basically the advantage is the INTERNET its a massive massive massive source of information of learning. 30 yrs ago kids in UK schools had no idea about what lifes like in say China.
disadvantage is that kids have now got bad or messy handwriting, and the Spelling and Grammar functions on word processing programs have allowed people to reduce their sentence construction skills. they rely on the IT too much.

Disadvantage:

Along with text messaging, the increased use of the internet and instant messaging has led to children unable to actually write English properly. coz dey all writ it lik dis. innit.
