is Madonna the Next Mommie Dearest? Does she really want for just one child to have a better life, -her life, - life in a celebrity fishbowl? Would she be more effective if she donated somma that money to organizations that build schools and hospitals or teach farming for the entire village? Will this child feel special and loved, or freakish and used?

My point is not to bash one person or celebs in general, and it was not to get her name out yet again as free publicity. I seriously feel that celebs choose the committment of adoption mainly for how good it will look on their ad posters, and that there's so much more that they could do. and if you seriously want to help a needy child, will you get more brownie points with an american needy kid or a foreign needy kid - it's a 'food for thought' question. The best answer is the one with lots of soul searching behind it.

Indeed, Madonna is raking in the publicity. She is making a lot of references about other celebrities whom have adopted. I only wish I could see more children adopted in the USA. Would they bring the same amount of publicity?

Why would anyone adopt a child for publicity. Being a parent is a serious commitment. Madonna has children of her own that she gave birth to. The orphanage where the child was living was being supported by Madonna's foundation. When a celebrity goes to an very poor area like Africa to make a difference we should take an interest not bash them. I do wish more was done to promote adoption here in America.

Well its an interesting one to answer, I have been living in Africa for the last 4 years doing charity work and me and my hubbie had a baby out there. But we have not been able to adopt because we havent been resident long enough. Most of the countries of Africa have residential pre-conditions.
Yet, Angelina and Madonna are clearly more important than me and my hubbie...they could adopt in countries where we clearly couldnt. even though we tried!
Its so frustrating - we know that we could give a baby or kiddie a good home, but we arent famous and we play by the rules....
ANd yes - I do think, given our experience of living in Africa, that anyone's money would be better spent going into an intensively managed orpahage, school or other educational institution. But there is this crazy school of thought around 'I saved a poor black baby' going on at the moment, and whilst I think its admirable, its actually a lot harder to adopt a white kid in the country of your own origin (usually because they wont be a baby and will have severe emotional problems and need more intensive help and care than your average celeb could give!!)

I don't see how it is for publicity. Celebrities are always looked at and photographed. And in being so, when they do things in life such as adopting. It is on the news. It's not their fault. Even Madonna's adopted child's father signed the papers for his son. He knows he will have a better life with oppurtunties given to him,and he said those statements as well. . And another thing, she (madonna) has donated millions of dollars to charities, and organizations. This also helps draw attention to the need of all the children needing adoption. There is nothing wrong with it. If you were famous and you adopted, .... Someone would probably being writing the same question as you did about the subject.

I am sure he will have alot better life than he did in Africa,but.....I wish that these celebrities would recognize the needs of children here in America, rather then trying to rescue other countries burdens..We have entire homeless families, adoptable kids & teens here that need as much as the other foreigners do....It really pisses me off to no end...They could always go over to these other countries & build their mansions there to raise these needy humans far as I am concerned..

it variety of feels to be extraordinarily much like a fashion vogue to those people now a days. It in simple terms is going to coach that money talks and it quite is unhappy to think of that there are couples obtainable that could die to have a guess at adopting a toddler while for medical motives it quite is previous their administration to no longer be waiting to have their very own, and those celebrities in simple terms look waiting to pass the line by way of fact of who they're and it quite is in simple terms no longer perfect.

Damned if they do. ("Just for plublicity!") Damned if they don't. ("Why don't you celebrities really help someone rather than simply preaching?")
