cylinders , are they related to the engine size?

cylinders: where the fuel goes to be burnt, the more cylinders you have the smoother the power transition and in theory the better the acceleration
Valves: how the fuel get to and the gases get out of the cylinders,
the more you have the better the acceleration.

No they are not related to engine size, 2.0l in a four cylinder engine means each cylinder is 0.5 l in a 8 cylinder engine it means each cylinder is 0.25 l. What its about is how the power and gasses are dealt with from a power point of view the more the better from a reliability point of view the less the better ( less parts -less to go wrong!)

Cylinders are where the pistons run up and down they are conected to the conrods and the conrods are conected to the crankshaft the crank shaft works on a cam system to push each piston up and down the cylinders the piston travels on a 4 stroke system in cars , Induction , Compression , Power, Exhaust .

Suck , Squeeze , Bang , Blow . Induction valve opens lets fuel and air into the cylinder and the piston travels down , Compression ,Valve closes piston travels up the piston , Power spark ignites fuel and an explosion happens in the cylinder sending the piston traveling down . Exhaust valve opens and the piston travels up the cylinder , while the exhaust valve is open pushing the gases out . The hole process starts again the valve run on a cam system which is connected to the crank shaft via a belt and pully system . There are allso 2 stroke motors and rotary engines
As to 6 v " V" means valve , so you have a two valves per cylinder meaning you have a three cylinder engine , whilst if it say "V6" it would mean six cylinders in a "V" shape engine. There are all so horizontaly opposed , strait and radial

the cylinder is where the petrol is burnt that expands and pushes a piston down. The valve lets the petrol in and the burnt exhaust gas out.

The more valves, the quicker you can get petrol into and exhaust out of the engine.

The i means that the petrol is injected (pumped) in rather than just sucked in by a carburetter

and a V6 or a V8, V10, or V12 means that the cylinders are not in a straight line, and is different for 16V which means 16 valves.

The most valves that you usually have is 4 per cylinder. Old cars only had 2 per cylinder
