it can cause ear infections

It does, however you dont want to pour too much in there as you could get an ear infection. I find that heating a damp wash cloth in the microwave for a few seconds (30 or less) and then placing that moist heat on my ear will help with any pain, but it also loosenes any ear wax and then you can gently get it out with a qtip, the peroxide works best when you have an aspirator ( a bulbed syringe) that they give you in the hospital for helping get the boogies out of the noses of babies.. You might be able to get one of those in the pharmacy department in the drugstore.

Dear Madame,

Peroxide acts an oxidizing agent on anything that comes into contact with. While the over-the-counter version is diluted (~3% H2O2), it is still a very, very powerful oxidizing agent. Being this, putting it in your ear is inadvisable, because you really do not want a powerful oxidizing agent coming into contact with your eardrum. eventually, this will cause premature breakdown of the eardrum lining, thus resulting in early hearing loss. I would not, under any conditions, advise doing this with peroxide, alcohol or...anything except for water. Saline soln could work, but it really wouldn't clean. soap and water are the standards.

yes it loosens the wax and sounds cool too.
I usually just pour the peroxide on the Q-Tip and then stick it in my ear letting it hang out in there for a few minutes.
Although doctors will tell you to mix it 50/50 with water and put it in a visine bottle and flush it out...peroxide is tough on tender skin.

I've put hydrogen peroxide on a Q-tip and put it in my ear, but it just seems to bubble. I don't know if anything is actually getting cleaned in that process.

It's supposed to. We use to use it after swimming a lot during the Summer.

My boss does this and she says that you keep your head sideways until you can not hear it bubbling anymore. Don't let it get on your hair cause it will dye it.
