I took out my braids and now I have this fro with two textures and alot of new growth. My friends thought it was nice, but people were making some rude comments like " you need to get a perm" or "you need to comb out your nappy hair." I find it dissapointing that most of the people who were making the slick comments were Black folks. Why do I have to get a perm? Why can't Black folks wear their natural hair?

You don't have to get a perm. And lots of black women wear their hair in its natural state. I know I do and I many of the women in my family do as do many of my friends. It's become so common for Black women to relax their hair that many people think that that is how things should be. It's not.
If God meant for you to have straight hair you would have been born with straight hair. Be the real you and wear your hair the way you want to.

These black folks are just ignorant. I don't think you should. My new growth is coming up as well and I plan on letting it all grow out. A lot of "us" have issues especially based on hair. If your new growth is trying to come out that's because it's the way your hair is supposed to be.
People who put in perms and relaxers put gloves on their hands to protect themselves so why on earth would you put that on the top of your head?

I permed my hair because I couldn't take care of it as it got longer (I'm lazy) and quite frankly, only YOU should answer this question. Tell those tired negroes to GET A LIFE. You should wear you hair anyway you feel comfortable. Some black women aren't able to go au natural.

your hair is yours. wear it how YOU like, don't worry about others.
you can do whatever you want. don't even worry about why they might have said that (maybe someone older said it to them etc.)
