Of course Americans feel bad. If you look at public opinion on the war in Iraq, a majority of Americans do not support the war or our involvement over there. Unfortunately, we can not simply "cut and run" without the death toll of Iraqi civilians increasing dramatically. We made a mistake by allowing our president to mislead our congress into sending troops over there. Now we have to deal with it in the most appropriate manner possible. Most of the media coverage that we get on Iraq briefly shows a body of a male adult on the street killed by "insurgents" and then the story is quickly changed to a lengthy analysis of Madonna's newly adopted son. We are not given all of the information, or any information that doesn't have a pro-war spin (or at least a softening effect) put on it. I think that if we were shown pictures of dead women and children on the news, changes would definitely be made much more quickly.
Also, there are many wars that Americans haven't been involved in that unfortunately result in the death of children. This is not an isolated issue in war and not a policy that America has adopted. War has been going on for centuries. Unfortunately children die in any war. It is not right and it is not fair, but it happens. To say that American wars produce a higher death toll on children is a personal opinion based on emotion and not fact.

Sad for the families left behind. Total admiration that a man or woman can love this country and protect the rest of us to the extent of the ultimate sacrifice. Frustration we did not have an exit strategy when we went in to Iraq. Anger that some politicians use this for political gain. Disbelief that the same people that blamed the government for not doing enough and contributing to 9/11 or some of the same folks wanting an immediate exit from Iraq, and will be the same folks bitching when oil prices go to $200 a barrel when the Shiites and Iran take over.

Yes, I do believe that Americans do care about the children who have died in Iraq. And I also believe that is one of the reasons President Bush doesn't want war on our soil. Our children would be victims of war, just the same as the children have in other countries. A very sad fact, but true.

There have been innocent casualties in every war that has ever been fought. I would wager that America does more to limit this than any country on the face of the earth today or ever. Face it, most of the civilians killed in Iraq have been killed by other muslims, not by Americans. I don't hear you asking if they are sorry for doing it. Yes , we hate to see innocents killed, just like the innocents in the WTC. Just like all the babies that are aborted every year in America. We hate to see all innocents killed.

It's sad, but not surprising, to see how people always lay the blame elsewhere; anything to avoid taking upon themselves the culpability for what is happening.
The basic blame is upon those who saw fit to invade a helpless nation for no justifiable reason. Everything that follows this is upon their heads.
I think the USA has a very cavalier attitude about civilian casualties and has probably caused more—proportionally—than any other country in a war, or in this case, invasion.

At The End All Of Us Will Die And GOD Will Judge All Of Us.
Every Life is valuable To HIS/HER CREATOR, GOD.
GOD Cries every time a soul is lost.
Let us pray for those who got killed, because they were
born overseas and away from America.
Let us appreciate GOD for being born In America and
do not undergo this fate.

I don't think so, in Viet Nam the politicians ran the war and drew it out until we eventually lost. They didn't want civilian casualties to large as if we won they would welcome us with open arms. However, in war the object is to cause as much death and destruction to the enemy on his soil so that he/they will capituate and cede the victory to those who oppress them. Look at Japan during WWII for an example.

any wartorn area needs our prayers and yes it does sadden the heart
but sadder still after all this time that these same countries must still depend upon the help of others to "defend" their areas ...
there has been great loss of American lives in the midst of all of these wars as well - defending in areas that were not their own but were willing to defend our freedoms and help achieve freedoms for others as well
seems to me that notion is too easily forgotten
war is an ugly thing!

Do terrorists feel sorry for those civilians they killed? Do terrorists care that they killed the majority of those civilians?
Do you know that the American military goes out of its way to avoid civilian casualties?

Most of the deaths in this war are caused by insurgents who are being supported by radical Iraqi's. I would like to see it stop, but its not going to stop with us or without us. In fact without us, its going to get a hell of a lot worse.
