Electrons are sometimes transported by electron carrier molecules such as NAD+

The electrons are transported in the form of H...as in NADH, which then these NADH's go to the mitochondria and donate those electrons to O2(oxygen...which is the main reason we need to breath) and then the oxygen is turned into water. after that happens, the NADH is oxidized to NAD+...as in what the first person said above. this all takes place in the mitochondria for making ATP, which is energy we need.
