you can try reinstalling Windows without formating the drive. Also choose the install path to be different. for instance Windows will ask you to install in C:\Windows. use something like C:\xWindows as the install path. this way, since you don't reformat the drive, the data will still be there. You may want to start backing up you stuff with an external drive or do what i do i email myself everything i have so its accessible anywhere I go.

If it won't boot... YOU NEED A NEW HARD DRIVE!!! A decent hard drive will cost about $75 to $100. Welcome to the wonderful world of computer repare. Then again, if you aren't intellectually sound enough to realize that you need a new hard drive, perhaps you should let a professional take care of replacing it.

Losing data on a hard drive is the worst nightmare of any computer owner. However, some hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful

reformat and try again...there are also bootsector programs but be careful as they can damage permanently.
