Stop talking to him.. ignore him and do not acknowledge his presence... If he is a pet then you can't go to the boss...
Use discretion when you talk to other staff and do not talk about him. Do your work and go home.. do not socialize with them and wear a smile on your face all day... Be polite but aloof....

in no uncertain terms tell him to knock off the bs, if he doesn`t go to the boss, and tell him what is going on, if it still continues in any way go to the hr people in your firm, in the event that its just the three of you in a small company, start looking around for a new job

Look him straight in the eyes and tell him what you want to tell him. Do it with witnesses. If he's doing it to you he's doing it to someone else too. Doncha' miss the old days when you could just take them outside and kick the crap out of them.

Confront the person with this:
"I know you and I are friends, so I have to ask you what exactly is your purpose in taking about me to others in the negative way that you have been?"
That should put him on the spot.

Tell the boss or human resources. If that doesn't work, take him out to the car park and beat the crap out of him.
