I found this article about essentially "piggy-backing" on someone else's wireless internet connection...how would you feel if someone was accessing the internet for free, using your wireless connection, without your permission? Apparently it is unlawful; I wasn't aware of this!

Your thoughts?

my personal belief is that people shouldn't use any kind of technology they don't know the basics of, regardless of how much industry tries to push that technology on them.

this applies to computers themselves because novices end up with a machine full of viruses and spyware or under the control of hackers who use it as a relay point for attacks on other computers.

broadband internet too because again, this makes the insecure machines with 'always on' internet connections without a firewall a target for hackers.

wireless internet, while convenient, is being given the hard sell lately but within the reach of my wireless laptop there are 3 wireless routers, and every one is unsecured. i even changed the broadcast name of them all to 'THIS ROUTER NEEDS A PASSWORD' to try and get through to these people - what happened? they just hit the reset button on the back and voila back to factory settings and STILL unsecured.

maybe people will begin to care about the security of their belongings when the police break down their front door at 5am cos someone's been using their open wireless router to download massive amounts of kiddy porn and they have to prove it wasn't them?

..One can trace the computers that are using your WI-FI connection and prosecute. Also one can encrypt the connection for all the devices they want to secure in their personal network.
Using someones network without permission is a crime.
